Authentic and original, Game Used USC Trojans full size RIDDELL Kra-Lite suspension Football Helmet bearing original paint and the proper size, color, and style thin 10 mil decals of the University of Southern California Trojans for 1972, the first year USC used the Trojan decals on helmets. Decals show appropriate shrinkage for decals of this vintage and thickness. 1972 was also the year of the Trojans perfect 12-0 season and National Championship! Nice large adult size 7 helmet shows manufacturer sticker from RIDDell which would have been used on helmets manufactured during 1968 and 1969. Date on label is not legible any longer. Also the presence of factory gray paint on the inside of the shell guarantees the helmet was manufactured no later than 1969. The heat stamp of “RIDDELL” suggests 1969, and the second identical neat stamp and additional recertification stickers suggests the helmet was used by the school 3 to 4 years, so there is every reason the deduce this helmet was present during the 1972 National Championship season! Helmet still retains vintage gray RIDDell BD-9 2-bar facemask as USC used for many of their skill players of the era. Also present is the remnant of impressions above the forehead left by the round washers used to mount a “bullring” or U-bar mask which has since been removed. Remnants of removed athletic tape above the left earhole which would have had the number of the player using the helmet still remain, while #71 circled above the right earhole is visible as well. Another #34 is written onto the rear lower suspension. The original vintage rubber top pad, leather jaw pads and original vintage chin strap with matching “RIDDELL” stamping also compliment this amazing piece of NCAA Americana. This helmet would have been present at the 1973 Rose Bowl as #1 USC dominated #3 Ohio State 42-17 to cap a perfect year and claim the 1972 National Championship. This is a true must have for any USC Trojans fan! We acquired this item several years ago from an estate sale in the Los Angeles area
