The very small leaves, and twigs, are mid green, and the flowers are an interesting mix of red, yellow and orange shades, appearing russet orange from a distance. It flowers on upright or slightly arching twigs in late spring and early summer. It's important with cytisus to cut back immediately after flowering to give the shrub as much time as possible to form the young shoots
