This 'flat Earth' view of our planet was originally drawn by Giovanni Domenico Cassini on the floor of the Paris Observatory around 1690. This was a monumental work and the first real map of the world. Renard reproduced it here, with a superbly engraved figure of Atlas holding Earth on his shoulders. It's a really lovely piece of art. Back
