Antique Japanese Edo (C1850) Hand Made Bamboo Hot Coal Basket With Handle Chinese 1840) of hinoki (cypress) faceThis is an antique Japanese basket intricately woven with tsutsu dake (aged bamboo). This basket has a sheet iron lining as it was filled with white ash to make it fire resistant and used to transport hot coals from one hibachi to another. It weights 2 lb 8 oz. It has been in storage for over half a century and with exception to some missing parts on the rim (see last two pictures), this basket remains in very good condition. It measures 11" in
