I enjoyed working with the pattern of light and shadow on the bird and the sunlight glowing through the beak. Painting white objects gives a chance to show the color of light sources such as a blue sky in the shadow areas. Great egrets migrate through Iowa, but I photographed this bird wintering in Florida.
