This chest was made in the mid Meiji era (c. 1880's) of kiri (paulownia) front and sugi (cryptomeria) case and interiors. Ishodansu were used to store precious kimono, obi and accessories. This chest can be easily used stacked or separated for side by side use or even as two bedside pieces. Each part is 19 3 4" tall. This tansu chest is made with pegged tenon open mortise corner box joint
