It remained however a rather rare emblem until the Edo period (1603 1868), only used by a few clans, notably as a kaemon (sub emblem) by some members of the Matsudaira Tokugawa family. Interestingly, the use of Tsuta emblems became widespread from the 17th century, as they were adopted by many
