Le Tournai Horizontal French Wall Tapestry Coastal/Nautical In the late 19th centuryThis jacquard wall hanging tapestry, Le Tournai, or The Tournament is a reproduction of an 1895 oil painting by Jean Paul Laurens, titled; A Tournament Scene At the end of the 15th Century. A faithful interpretation of the original oil painting was woven at the Royal Manufacture of Gobelins from 1895 to 1899. Highly stylized, this epic composition can be compared with the sumptuous middle ages frescoes.
