Netherlands, Kingdom. A Metal Cross for Volunteers 1830-1831 (Hasselt Cross) Republic of wrung them out as much(Het Metalen Kruis). Instituted in 1831. In bronze gilt, inscribed "VRIJWILLIG" (Voluntarily) above the "W" monogram on the obverse identifying it as the volunteer's version, measuring 29. 5 mm (w) x 34. 3 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally pierced ball suspension, scattered gilt wear evident on the reverse, contact marks overall, without ribbon, very fine. Footnote: The Metal Cross was established by Royal Decree and instituted on September 12, 1831.
