New York Symphony Orchestra - Diploma Signed by All Members 1922 Autographs Singers 50 or less J Signed photo postcard shown asFounded by Leopold Damrosch in 1878, the NY Symphony Orchestra was for many years the fiercest rival of the older Philharmonic Symphony Society of New York (or New York Philharmonic, founded in 1842). In 1920 it was the first American orchestra to tour Europe and ended merging with the NY Philharmonic in 1928.
