1861 Pennsylvania 1st Defenders Medal of Honor preowned these works are authenticated onThis 1861 Penn. 1st Defense Medal is a once in a lifetime find, honoring the brave soldier that received it. The medal is bronze and is marked on the obverse side as The First Defenders, and the middle of the medal reads First in Defence of the Capital, April 18, 1861, and features an etching of the U. S. Capital. The reverse is marked as being awarded to George Shartle of the Ringgold Light Infantry. This medal was awarded to the "first defenders"
