Instituted September 14 1880 by President Antonio Guzman Blanco. Type II. (1922 2010). In silver gilt, a multiple ray sunburst with dual rays at 12, 3, 6 and 9 oclock, the obverse ovular medallion features the right facing profile of Simon Bolivar in a blue enamel surround inscribed SIMON BOLIVAR, the reverse features the Venezuelan coat of arms, measures 47. 9mm (w) x 57. 8mm (h inclusive of integral ball), weighs 25. 3 grams
