Footnote: The Galloway Rifle Volunteers were a 19th century Scottish volunteer infantry unit raised for home defence in southwest Scotland. Later affiliated with regular Scottish regiments, they trained in marksmanship and drill, with members serving in home defence and some overseas during the First World War. Their cap
