Constructed of aluminum, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central raised mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of FR VERDIENSTE IM LUFTSCHUTZ (FOR MERIT IN AIR DEFENCE), the reverse bearing a central raised date of 1938, unmarked, measuring 40. 11 mm (w) x
