A Spanish War Cross; 1937-1942 Issue Archive PUGH 1966" and numbered "2072"Seven piece construction, bronze gilt arms with enamelled insignia on a silvered bronze base, unmarked, 60. 7 mm x 60. 8 mm, dual prongs flanking a vertical pinback, intact enamels, extremely fine. Footnote: The War Cross was instituted on January 26, 1937 and amended in 1942. It was a direct descendant of the Military Order of Mary Christine (Mara Cristina) created for the Queen Regent in 1890 and intended to reward military bravery.
