France, Ii Empire. A Military Medal, C.1860 Newly Listed It was granted to individuals(Mdaille Militaire). Instituted in 1852. An excellent example of this eariler type, in silver gilt with blue enamels, measuring 26 mm (w) x 46 mm (h) inclusive of its eagle and integral ring, intact enamels, very light contact, original ribbon, near extremely fine. Footnote: The Military Medal was instituted on January 22, 1852 by Napoleon III and awarded for courage and devotion to duty.
