The frame is then thoroughly burned with a torch to deeply etch the wood. A wire brushing and coating with a white wax accentuates the annual ring pattern and highlights the inherent structural qualities of the wood. The piece combines fine woodworking with an intuitive, fire based process evolved from the Japanese technique of shou
