The blade features a broad, very thin forged, wedge shaped cutting edge that flares outward, often with projecting lugs on either side of the eye (yoke like protrusions). The head is relatively light due to the thin steel, yet large in surface area. This is the classic Dane axe, which appears in larger numbers from around 950 AD. It was used by elite
